Graf von Faber-Castell Guilloche Writing Instruments are available in Fountain Pen, Rollerball Pen, Ballpoint Pen or Propelling Pencil.
The metal fittings, such as the tip, end cap and clip, are plated with high-quality rhodium. Each one is engraved individually using a method otherwise reserved for jewelry or silver accessories. The barrel is then hand-lacquered and repeatedly polished. The result is a unique and most interesting surface texture. No two writing instruments are identical: each is an individual example of the craftsman's art. The Guilloche series correspond to the Classic model in terms of technology and features, but is somewhat smaller and lighter.
When the Guilloche series was initially launched, the fountain pens featured an 18 carat yellow gold nib. The current 18 carat gold nibs are now rhodinized which are silver in appearance.
The barrel is made of high-quality resin in a variety of colors with a Guilloche engraving, in a delicate herringbone pattern or chevron in black. One of the original colors Sahara, (a yellow tone) with the Guilloche engraving - has been discontinued.

Fountain Pens feature hand-made 18-carat gold, rhodium plated nibs that are "run in" or assembled by hand. Available in Nib Sizes: Extra Fine, Fine, Medium, Broad. *Oblique Medium-left slant and Oblique Broad-left slant are special order. The pen when purchased comes with a converter for filling ink from an ink bottle - sold separately. It will also accept ink cartridges ideal for travel, sold separately as well. The cap is removed by pulling gently and posts on the back of the barrel when writing if desired.
Rollerball Pens feature a smooth running, precision point rollerball refill with a ruby ball tip. The ink is liquid giving it a more fluid action comparable to a fountain pen. The pen when purchased comes with black ink in medium. Blue refills are also available separately. Additional sizes are not currently available.
Ballpoint Pens feature a large capacity refill with a rolling ball tip. The ink is a paste compared to liquid ink and tends to have a longer life span. *Frequency of usage makes a difference of course. The refill is extended by twisting the end cap of the pen to write, it is retracted for storage the same way. The pen can be used without a cap as the refill will not dry out.
Propelling Pencils feature 0.7mm super fine leads in lead hardness B (equivalent to No.2). Other degrees of lead hardness are available - sold separately. The pencil comes with 3 leads in the barrel. It's best to have 3 and no more than 5, otherwise adding more especially if broken pieces are added - it will cause the leads to jam and the pencil will not function properly. The leads are advanced by twisting the end cap of the pencil. The leads are retracted by twisting the end cap, holding it in place and pushing the lead back in.
