Do not use solvents or cleaners to clean the pen. Using a soft cloth and water will usually remove any dirt. Use a soft polishing cloth to wipe down and polish metal parts.

Older silver-plated styles will require polishing. The instrument will tarnish more so when not used frequently. The new platinum-plated styles do not require silver polish and will not tarnish.

Make sure to use the correct lead size.  All Graf von Faber-Castell Mechanical or Propelling Pencils take 0.7mm lead. If you use the incorrect size, the lead will either fall back into the barrel when pressure is applied or it will cause the mechanism to jam.

It is suggested to fill the pencil with 3 leads. Use no more than 5 leads at one time when refilling lead mechanisms. The e-motion and the Pocket Pencil are the only pencils that will hold 1 lead at a time.

If you are not certain how to refill the pencil, please view refill instructions.
